Bio

Sam Gibbs was born to Alexander W. Gibbs and Amanda Caroline Fendly on March 22, 1881. He was born a twin to Manuel Gibbs. They were the 4th/5th sons in the family of 5 children. The oldest child was the only girl. Their father, Alexander, had died in December of 1880. His mother remarried before Feb, 1885, to Thomas Greer Delk. He married Josephine Viancia Reeves on 17 July, 1900 in Duff, Arkansas. They had 8 children. A girl, Flaura Orilla "Ted" (1901-1984), Ollie May (1903-1939), Estell Eugene "Cheese" (1905-1978), Gladys Neva (1908-1992), Nina Lucy (1910-1910), Doyle Samuel (1912-1975), Don Jennings "PeeWee" (1917-1948), and Jackson Reno "Jack" (1920-2005). Josephine died in 1935. He remarried to Bertha Jayroe. Sam worked as a section Foreman for the railroad until retirement. He lived his last days in a personal care facility in Little Rock, Arkansas.
