Bio

Leo R. Janu, age 76, of rural Frazee, MN, died Friday, August 24, 2012, at his home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Services 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, MN. Leo was born February 26, 1936, the eldest of nine children born to Eutychius and Mary Ann (Tuna) Janu at Breckenridge, Minnesota. The family moved to Fargo, ND, and then to the farm in rural Frazee, MN in 1947. Leo married Cecelia VanWatermulen September 15, 1960, at the Butler church. The couple made their home at Detroit Lakes, MN, until 1966 when they moved to rural Frazee. The union was blessed with 6 children: Kim, Karen, Kay, Keith, Kurt and Karla. Prior to his marriage to Cecelia, Leo drove truck for Luce Concrete. He continued his career in trucking and drove for the Frazee Elevator, Lakeland Turkey, and then moving cattle for Nistler Truck Line. Eventually, he retired from Evensons Trucking, Pelican Rapids, MN. They bought his Dad's farm in 1976, where the family raised cattle, farmed, raised a produce truck garden and owned and operated Janu Pumkin Patch. During retirement, Leo enjoyed wood crafts and worked with garden produce. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially when he was deer hunting. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, E.J. and Mary; and two sisters: Nona and Patty.
