Doris J. Asp, 86, of Holdrege died Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Doris Jean (Lewis) Asp, 86 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on January 17, 2022, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Doris was born in Sargent, Nebraska on February 10, 1935, the oldest of three children, born to Fred and Esther (Luft) Lewis. Her family lived near Havens, Nebraska until 1947, when they moved to a farm on the West side of Clarks, Nebraska. It was there that she attended the rural school through eight grade and then Clarks High School graduating with the class of 1953. Following her education, Doris started working at the Northwest Bell Telephone Company and in 1957 she was transferred to Kearney and then to Holdrege in 1958. When the Telephone Company closed in 1967, Doris started an in-home daycare. From 1976 until 1992 she worked as a Cook at the Holdrege High School, Methodist Homes, and the Senior Center all in Holdrege. Doris then worked at Trinity Child Care until her retirement in 1998. On September 24, 1960, Doris was united in marriage to Dean Asp in Holdrege. The couple were blessed with two daughters: Linda and Nancy, and later adopted their son, Mike. Doris enjoyed gardening, sewing, crochet, and reading. She sewed several quilts and crocheted a lot of doll clothes through the years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Besides her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by, one grandson, Chris Lovegrove; one brother-in-law, Wilson Asp; and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Scheele. She is survived by three children, eight grandchildren, one grand daughter in law, nine great grandchildren, brother, sister, sister in law and husband, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is honoring Doris' wish for her body to be donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
