Bio

Wanda Lee Trammell Purcell was born July 12th, 1929 in Strong City, Oklahoma to Rosetta (Hensley) and William Thomas Boswell. She passed away Tuesday, January 11th, 2022 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 30 days. Wanda grew up in Strong City, Oklahoma where she began school. At some point during her school days she transferred to Cheyenne where she excelled in basketball before her graduation in 1948. After graduation, she moved from her parents residence to Cheyenne and worked various jobs. She was married to R.L. Trammell on February 14th, 1950. They remained in Cheyenne where they raised their family and made their home. Wanda worked at the courthouse under Fred Bran and later worked part time at the grocery store. Wanda and R.L. purchased the Mobil Service Station and it grew into two stations, wholesale gas and diesel, and LP businesses. Later they also added ice vending to the Cheyenne area. In the early '70s Wanda and R.L. sold the wholesale fuel business and built the Cheyenne Motel which she currently still owned and operated. After R.L.'s passing, Wanda later married Gooch Baxter "G.B." Purcell April of 1980. Together they made Cheyenne their home as well. Wanda was always mindful of her community and was civic minded. She was instrumental in the Minnie R. Slief Library, Silent Home and Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne Education Foundation, Alumni Association for Strong City and Cheyenne, Eastern Star, Roger Mills Memorial Hospital board, member of the Quilts for Valor Club and was most recently knitting hats for infants with the Ministerial Alliance. In what little spare time Wanda had, she enjoyed eating out and shopping. In her last years she traveled attending jamborees with the Jamboree Travelers. Her most recent love was Lily, a Jack Russell Terrier. She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and one brother, Eldon Boswell. Wanda is survived by her son, Arthur Trammell, Cheyenne, OK; 2 grandchildren, Michael Trammell, Cheyenne, OK and Shauna Burmeister and husband, Matt Rolla, MO; 1 sister, Nelda Davis, Strong City, OK and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17th, 2022 at 2:00 officiated by Larry Parvin. Burial will immediately follow at Cheyenne Cemetery under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
