Vivian I. Petrik, 88, of Oelwein, Iowa, died peacefully Sunday morning, January 9, 2022, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2022, and from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Rosary: 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Parish Scripture Service: 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein. Memorials may be directed in her name to Cedar Valley Hospice. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and masks are suggested at the visitation and service. Vivian Irene Latham was born August 4, 1933, in Oran, Iowa, the daughter of Ilo Bernard and Esther (Strempke) Latham. In 1951, she graduated from Oelwein High School. On August 1, 1953, she was united in marriage to Alois Richard "Dick" Petrik at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. This union was blessed with five children: Daniel, David, Gail, Janna and Maribeth. For 32 years, Vivian was the Library Director at the Oelwein Public Library. Dick died on December 29, 2004. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Rosary Society, OCAD and two book clubs. Vivian enjoyed reading, golf, playing bridge, painting and crocheting. Vivian is survived by her 2 sons: Daniel (Mary) Petrik of Seattle, Washington and David (Lori) Petrik of Woodbury, Minnesota; 3 daughters: Gail (Jonathan) Ware of Johnston, Janna (Ron) Kane of Manchester and Maribeth (Randall) Richards of Daytona Beach, Florida; 9 grandchildren: Carissa, Adam, Megan, Leslie, Lauren, Collin, Christopher, Jerrad and Jacob; 9 great grandchildren; sister: Vertilla Robinson of Eustace, Texas; brother-in-law: Mike (Dawn) Petrik of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Richard "Dick" Petrik; brothers: LeRoy Latham and Laverne Latham; sister: Donna Corrigan; sisters-in-law: Lois Stuart and Patricia Wetmore; and a brother-in-law: Bob Petrik.
