ATN3 UNITED STATES NAVY VIETNAM Dennis was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska as the first of seven children of Carl and Luella (Vanek) Bernadt. Dennis graduated from Table Rock High School, Table Rock, Nebraska in 1960, where he lettered in several sports including football, basketball, and track. Dennis joined the U.S. Navy in 1962 and trained as an electronics technician and radio operator. He was a crewman flying surveillance missions during the cold war. Dennis married his first wife, Joyce Marfice in 1964 and had two children: Lori Garrison and Jonathan Bernadt. They divorced in 1981. After leaving the military in 1966, Dennis returned to Lincoln, Nebraska to complete his teaching degree. After completing his teaching degree in 1969, Dennis moved to Omaha, Nebraska to teach for Omaha Public Schools. Dennis was a teacher for OPS for 27 years. He taught Industrial Arts at South High School until 1987 and then taught Digital Electronics at the Industrial Arts and Career Center of South High School until his retirement in 1998. He also taught electronics and computer technology for Metropolitan Community College part time during his time at OPS and then full time from 1998 until his retirement in 2008. Dennis married Linda J. Garrison on November 6, 1999 and was married to her at his time of death. They met country dancing and spent many years dancing together. Dennis was especially fond of babies and they loved him back. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He spent a lot of hours in retirement working in his flower garden, listening to county music, watching various news programs, and communicating with his siblings via Face time. When he was able, he loved traveling to Hawaii to spend time visiting with Linda's mother Esther.
