Source: Daily Ardmoreite Funeral services for Velma M. Morris, 91, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert D. Lee, pastor of First Orthodox Baptist Church. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Morris died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, in the local hospital after an extended illness. The daughter of Indian Territory pioneers S.J. and Leila Stanfield Massey, she was born March 4, 1906, at Legate, I.T. A resident of Ardmore and this area all her life, she married Gilbert M. Morris Oct. 8, 1922, at Legate. He preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1972. Mrs. Morris was a member of First Orthodox Baptist Church and Chapter 70, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former sales lady at Klein's Ladies Wear. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Harold Gene and Laverne Shipman Morris, Ardmore; a brother, Brance Clinton Massey, La Porte, Texas; three grandchildren, Harold Lynn Morris, New Orleans, Danna Hitt, Ardmore, and Donna Loper, Mannsville; three great-grandchildren, Jamie Vernon, Kevin Hitt and Michael Beard; a great-great-grandson, Tanner Vernon; four nieces; and two nephews. Serving as bearers will be Lowell Keeton, Harold Lynn Morris, Kenneth Hitt, Kevin Hitt, Michael Beard and Danial Vernon. Honorary bearer is Price Rickets. Memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice.
