R. J. STUCKEY JR. 1930 - 2007 Mr. R. J. Stuckey Jr., 77, died Monday, December 17, 2007, in Pensacola with his beloved wife of 58 years at his side. Known to his friends as "Tommy", Roy Jesse Stuckey Jr. was born in Escambia County on January 10, 1930 and was a lifelong resident of Century and Byrneville. Tommy began his working career as a teenager at Bubba Stanton's Grocery Store. Once out of high school, he worked on the L&N Railroad and then as a millwright at St. Regis Paper Company before joining his father at Standard Oil Distribution. After his father retired from Standard Oil, Tommy continued in this business with Chevron for over 47 years, with his wife working along side him. Tommy demonstrated his dedication to his community and his family in how he lived his life. He was interested in preserving the rich history of the local area through his energetic support of and membership in the Century Historical Society. Tommy was a strong supporter of local business growth and served on the Board of Directors of Escambia County Bank for 25 years. Tommy was a dedicated and committed member of the Byrneville United Methodist Church. New church Pastors came to rely on Tommy's knowledge, faith, and dedication to the congregation to help them in a successful tenure, and all came to know him as a good and faithful servant, and most importantly as a friend. Tommy was a supportive and loving grandfather to twins, Benjamin and Brandon Williamson; and a tireless playmate and beloved "Poppo" to Sophia and Jack Stuckey. Tommy's love and affection for his family nurtured a strong family tradition of all his children and grandchildren returning to Tommy and Sweet's home place every Christmas. As much as he loved his home, in recent years he looked forward to his annual trip to see the fall colors and take Sophia and Jack to their favorite Pennsylvania pumpkin patch. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 58 years, Margaret "Sweet" Stuckey; and his loving children, Linda Williamson and husband David of Pensacola, Mike Stuckey and wife Jenny of Ottsville, PA, and Ben Stuckey and wife Geri of Cape Canaveral, FL. He is also survived by his sister, Gwen Stuckey Killam of Gonzalez, FL. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Flora and R. J. Stuckey Sr. of Byrneville, FL; brother, Buck Stuckey of New Orleans, LA; and sister, Grace Jones of Oveida, FL. His funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Flomaton Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by the Reverends Freddy Stallworth, Diane Lawson, J.D. Renfroe, and Homer Stewart. Music will be sung by longtime friends, Sheila Alford and Gina Bashore and nephews, Freddie and Miller Stallworth. Pallbearers are Jimmy McCutchin, Bobby Simpson, Billy McCann, Larry Jones, J.R. Jones and David Stanton. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Kelly, Ed Kennedy, Charlie Reid, Roy Neal, Jimmy Stuckey, James Campbell and Joe Brantley. Interment will be at Byrneville United Methodist Church Cemetery near his parents. FLOMATON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. IN lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Byrneville United Methodist Church, 1351 Byrneville Road, Century, Florida 32535 in loving memory of Tommy's wonderful life.
