WICHITA FALLS - On December 13, 2021, John Marcus Simmons, III ("Mark Simmons") ("PawPaw" to his grandchildren) passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with cancer and is now rejoicing in the presence of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Mark was born on October 8, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was one of three children born to John Marcus Simmons, Jr. and Dorothy LaDeen Simmons. He adored his big sister, Randi, and was so proud of his younger brother and friend, David. As a teenager, Mark often spent the summers caddying at the Wichita Falls Country Club. Mark attended Wichita Falls Old High where he mastered the makings of a mean cheeseburger and the best malts, and most importantly, where he met the love of his life, Darla, his senior year. Not long after her graduation, they married in June of 1974 and celebrated 47 years of marriage, and were an amazing example of love, commitment, and care to their children and grandchildren. Professionally, Mark was a talented architect who was not only able to design and draft by hand but could actually turn around and frame and build what he had drawn. He went on to use his love of construction and efficiency to serve as the Director of Facilities Management for United Regional Healthcare Systems where he retired after 20 years with many friends among his team and coworkers. Mark and Darla enjoyed playing golf, spending countless summers skiing on the lake, and building a lifetime of lasting friendships. Mark's favorite pastime was late-night discussions debating politics, theology, and anything that would get a rise out of his debater. He had a love for great music and spent many hours sharing his love of rock and roll with any who came in the door. He was most proud of his best friend and son, Jacob. What Mark looked forward to most in the later years of life was having his grandbabies in town. He loved a house full of family and friends, and always had an open door for nephews and nieces. Mark is survived by his beautiful and beloved wife, Darla, his son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Sara Simmons of Lubbock, four grandchildren, Rachel, Luke, Hope & Faith, his brother David and wife Tana of Randlett, many in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. He was loved by all that knew him and will be missed dearly. Please join us in celebrating Mark's life at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home, 2812 Midwestern Parkway, Wichita Falls, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls in thanks for their excellent care. Lunn colonial Funeral Home Wichita Falls, Texas
