William T. Weems is a son of Augustus and Susan (Tatom) Weems, and is of Scotch Descent. He was the eldest of eight children. His early days were spent on the farm and in attending the common schools. In connection with his farming he follows the blacksmith's trade, which he learned when young. William was married in Perry County, TN February 4, 1869, to Mary J. Lewis daughter of J. D. Lewis. William and Mary had three children, Ella Eugenia, Jesse Ambers, and George Franklin. William was a stanch Republican and a member of the Masonic fraternity, Dunaway Lodge, No 440. Also, William and Mary were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. In April, 1865 after the close of the war, county court held its first session and William T. was a magistrate under Judge Thomas Whitwell. William also had a club foot on his left leg and most of the pictures of him, his foot is covered. Their is 1 picture where he left his foot uncovered. He had trouble finding shoes, so he made his own shoes. Died at the age of 67-4-12, no cause listed for death.
