Funeral service for Magaline Johnson will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021, in the Kramer Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Magaline White Johnson, 97, of Alexandria, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in Rosepine. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Emmett Andrew Johnson; her parents, Robert E. Lee White and Mary Daisy Nash White; her three brothers and four sisters; one daughter, Laura Johnson; two grandsons, Rev. Gary Wayne Walley and Nathanial Martin Powell; one great-granddaughter, Karissa Michal Walley; and one son-in-law, Rev. Grover Walley. Magaline Johnson, affectionately known as "Aunt Maggie," was born on January 9, 1924. She graduated Oak Hill High School with honors and then went on to work as a civilian at Camp Claiborne during World War II. While working at Camp Claiborne, she met her future husband, Emmett Andrew Johnson, with whom she spent 50 years of marriage before he passed away. Together, they had three daughters and she made a wonderful home for her family. She was a natural caretaker and shared her love with the community by opening an in-home daycare for approximately ten years. After her daycare closed, she also worked at Calvary Daycare. While Aunt Maggie shared her love with the children of her home daycare, she was also the full-time caretaker of her mother during the final nine years of her life. She also poured out every ounce of love she had for her husband when she took care of him during his final years of life. She cared for and loved everyone while also gracefully overcoming the challenge of being legally blind. She never let that stand in her way of caring for those she loved. She set an example of how to love for her family and all who knew her showed her that love in return. Another of Aunt Maggie's loves was the joy she found in gardening. She was especially proud of her beautiful, pink roses and she never missed an occasion in which she could bring a beautiful bouquet of her fresh flowers. Magaline was blessed with the gift of a beautiful memory. Her family recalls that the combination of her memory and love never allowed her to forget any detail of any member of her extensive family. The family will cherish her memory for years to come. Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Bobbie Lynn Walley and Linda Susan Powell (Martin); her seven grandchildren, Russell A. Howell, Sr. (Tina), Sherry L. McLellon (Charlie), Melissa D. Dewaine (Johnathan), Michael D. Walley (Pamela), Joey Martin Powell (Nikki), Kevin Patrick Powell (Heather), and Susan Laneigh Camp (Philip); her 13 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-greatgrandchildren.
