LA JOY "JOY" BUCKNER May 17th, 1934 - November 12, 2021 Obituary Joy Buckner, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many, passed away on November 12, 2021, at the age of 87 with family by her side. Even though a failing body took her away from this world, her loving heart left a beacon of light for all to share. Joy was born on May 17, 1934, as the fifth of seven children to Herbert and Mary Cook in Spur, Texas. Growing up in west Texas, Joy and her family, like many, endured and overcame the hardships of the post-depression/war era in rural America. Testing their collective spirits and strengthening her resolve to thrive and enjoy a full and happy life. She was brave and adventurous, not one to let fear or trepidation block her path. After relocating to Irving Texas with her family, Joy met and married the love of her life, Clyde Buckner. Together they built a life founded in love and partnership and raised a family of four children: Denise, Alvin, Don and Ken. Joy was a warm and caring soul who gladly opened her heart and her home to an innumerable number of friends, family and acquaintances ensuring all knew they were welcome and important. That in her, they had someone to count on. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Don Cook of Tulsa, OK; sisters Wanda White and Tyne Reflogal and brothers Charles Cook, V B Cook and Don Cook. Joy is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, Clyde, daughter Denise Berna, son Alvin Buckner all of Tulsa, OK; son Ken Buckner and wife Laurie of Magnolia, TX; grandsons David Berna and fiance Christi Shaw, Wade Buckner, Bow Buckner and wife Amanda, all from Tulsa, OK, Taylor Buckner and fiance Anna Sarabia of Leander, TX; three great granddaughters Cheyenne and Josie Berna and Layla Buckner; and one great grandson, Bowman Buckner all of Tulsa, OK; brother Leo Cook of Graham, TX; nine nieces and nephews and numerous friends. A visitation will be held from 9 AM to 7 PM on Thursday November 18, 2021, with family being present from 5 PM to 7 PM, at the Mark Griffith Memorial Funeral Home â€" Westwood Chapel.
