1956 © Evening World-Herald; Omaha, Nebraska; Friday, October 26, 1956; page 35 Louis Kavan Dies of Illness ~ Helped to Draw Up Proposed Charter Louis Kavan, 63, former City Commissioner and one of the men who drew up Omaha's proposed city charter, died Friday morning. He had been ill with cancer about three months. Mr. Kavan, who lived at 4219 South Eighteenth Street, died at a local hospital. Mr. Kavan, widely-known in the food retail industry, was executive secretary of the Omaha Food Retailers Association and had held several state and national offices. Up for Re-Election He had served more than seven years on the School Board. He was to run for re-election in November after winning more votes than any other candidate in the spring primary. He served a year as Public Property Commissioner, being appointed to that city post in 1951. Mr. Kavan was elected to the City Charter Convention in May. Although confined, he continues to work for the municipal constitution he had aided in drafting. Native of Omaha "As long as I have a telephone and a few friends, I'm going to do everything I can," he had stated. He was a native of Omaha. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brewer-Korisko Mortuary and burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Clara; four sons, Arthur, Lester, Harold and Donald, all of Omaha; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Rozgay and Mrs. Willard Wolfe, both of Omaha; two brothers, three sisters and 19 grandchildren. 1956 © Evening World-Herald; Omaha, Nebraska; Friday, October 26, 1956; page 35 KAVAN--Louis , age 63 years, 4219 S. 18th St., October 26, 1956.
