Bio

DONNA GARITY CARTER Donna Garity Carter was born December 24, 1917 in Lehi, Utah, the daughter of Robert L. Garity and Mildred Beck Garity. Donna passed away Tuesday evening, December 4, 2007 at the Clyde W. Cosper Veteran's Home in Bonham, Texas. She graduated from Tinic High School in Eureka, Utah. Her desire was to become an airline stewardess; however, because it was mandatory that a stewardess be a registered nurse, she attended the Latter Day Saints School of Nursing in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating in 1940. She then entered the U.S. Navy in March of 1942 as a commissioned officer and served in the military almost eight years as a registered nurse, receiving her honorable discharge in October of 1949. She was employed as a registered nurse by various hospitals from 1959 until she retired from Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas after working there from 1978 - 1989. She married Horace Lynn Carter, who was also serving in the U.S. Navy, in Exeter, New Hampshire on November 8, 1949. Donna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, serving in the Primary for many years. She loved children and devoted her time to school children in Tom Bean, Texas. She also enjoyed geneology and cooking. Survivors: Daughter: Donna Allen and husband Leon of Murray, Utah Son: Jeff Carter and wife Sheri of Sherman, Tx. Sister: Carol Larsen of Spanish Fork, Utah Nine Grandchildren: Zack Emory and wife Heather Mariah Carter Eli Carter Cye Carter Erika Mendenhall and husband Brett Lee Allen and wife Camille Erin Merrill and husband Trevor Elise Allen also by eight Great-Grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her husband Horace in June of 2007, her parents, a sister Lucille Dorick and a brother Robert Garity. Graveside services will be 1:00pm Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Post Oak Cemetery in Malakoff, Texas. Donna and Leon Allen, daughter and son in law, will officiate. An honor guard from the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail will conduct military graveside honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home of Sherman, Tx.
