Bio

Virgil G. "Buck" Lewallen, 90, of Waco, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2007. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 13, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with the Rev. Greg Brumit officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Mr. Lewallen was born in Rosebud, Texas, to the late William Elzie and Denie Cox Lewallen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He married Mary Ione Kolinek on Feb. 11, 1943, in Waco. He was a member of Kendrick Lane Baptist Church and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Assn. He retired as a carpenter in 1978 from Cameron Mill of Waco. Buck loved to hunt, fish, and tend to his yard. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Lewallen; and a sister, Fayola Haws. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ione; daughters, Jeanne Norris and Jan Bartee, both of Waco, Jo Ann Peeler and husband, Ed, of Buckholts; grandchildren, Duane McCain and wife, Suzanne, Joey McCain and wife, Valerie, J.R. Norris and wife, Amanda, Lisa Marshall and husband, Henry, Larry Peeler and wife, Sharlayne, Linda Gibson and husband, Tom, and Grant Bartee; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends.
