Bio
Bobby Willington Harris was born on January 10, 1926 in Italy, Texas to Ruby Bumpus and Robert Harris. Widely known as "Slo Poke", Mr. Harris was a life long resident of Italy, Texas. Bobby served in the United States Army, Company C 311th Infantry. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge on December 17th, 1944, was honorably discharged receiving the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. On April 10, 1954, Bobby married Dorris Nell Parker. The couple had two children, Mona Paiano and Tessa Yocham. They had three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Harris owned and operated Harris Body Shop, along with a company wrecker service. He loved country music. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, water skiing and gardening. Bobby is remembered as a provider to both his family and community. He was a long time mentor of high school students and a member of Central Baptist Church of Italy, Texas. He is survived by his sister Helen Martin; 2 grandchildren Rodney Guthrie and wife Zina and Kellie Guthrie; 2 great grandchildren Justin Guthrie and wife Madison and Jacqueline Ramirez; and 2 great-great-grandchildren Jett Guthrie and Emerson Guthrie. He is preceded in death by parents Robert and Ruby (Bumpus) Harris, brothers and sisters James Harris, Ray Harris, Jo Ann Ward, and Don Harris, his wife Dorris Nell Harris, daughters Tessa Yocham and Mona Paiano; and granddaughter Sandra Paiano. Visitation will be held at Central Baptist Church in Italy, Texas on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Services to celebrate Bobby's life will be held at Central Baptist Church on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 2:00 pm with interment to follow at the Italy City Cemetery.
