Bio

Joe Mack Poe, 91, of Tyler, Texas passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, in Tyler, Texas. Joe was born on April 2, 1930, in Edgewood, Texas to the late Clifton and Mary Poe. He was raised in Edgewood and a member of the Edgewood Church of Christ. Out of high school, Joe joined the Navy where he served two years in the South Pacific. Joe was married to his wife of 68 years Eva Lorae Minor. They lived in Quitman, Stephenville, and later Mesquite where they raised four children. After his service in the Navy, Joe worked as a carpenter. Joe left the carpentry trade to join the Dallas Police Department in 1955 where he served for 25 years, retiring in 1995. Following his retirement from the Dallas Police Department, he served with the Dallas County Sheriff Department for ten years in the Intelligence Division. After leaving the Dallas County Sheriffs Department, Joe served as an investigator for the Van Zandt County District Attorney. Joe enjoyed wood working, hunting, fishing, and watching westerns. Joe is survived by his sons, Frank Poe and wife Sherry of Atlanta, Georgia, Lee Poe and wife Becky of Noonday, Texas, and Don Poe and wife Tami of College Station; daughter, Marsha Huddleston of Hutto, Texas; brothers, Don Poe and wife Rene of Granbury and Bob Poe and wife Wanda of White Rock, New Mexico; grandchildren, Amy Gibson, Jenn Harrell, Jana Griffiths, Brady Huddleston, Joe David Thompson, Kristin Keyes, Emily Poe, Kami Huddleston, Lacy Huddleston and Tori Huddleston; along with 10 great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters and one brother. Family will be accepting guests Friday, October 22, 2021, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Edgewood Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Winnsboro Lee Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of East Texas, Church of Christ Edgewood, and Assist the Officer via website ATODallas.org or mail to 1412 Griffin St. East, Dallas, Texas 75215.
