ZIMMERHANZEL, Charlie of Taylor. Age 72. Died 7/28/1989 (Friday) in Johns Community Hospital following a lengthy illness. Rosary recited Sunday at Condra Memorial Chapel. Services held 7/31 (Monday) in St.Mary's Catholic Church. Burial in Capital Memorial Park. Rev. Howard Goertz officiated. He was BORN 10/23/1916 at Cistern, near Flatonia and came to Taylor in 1938, from Elgin where he had been in business partnership in the Southside Market. He served as the local Grand Prize Beer distributor for a time before founding Taylor Meat Company in partnership with his late brother, Van Zimmerhanzel in 1947. Retired from the business on 1/1/85. His brother, Paul, joined the business in 1957. He was a member of St.Mary's Catholic Church. Veteran of WW-2, where he was assigned to the Second Division, in the Battle of the Bulge. He was active in civic affairs, Rotary Club and FFA Livestock & Poultry Show and Sale, chairing the buyer committee. He served as director of First Taylor National Bank for many years. Belonged to numerous civic organizations. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Van and Joe Zimmerhanzel. SURVIVORS: Wife, Angel of Taylor; 2 daughters, Rita Roepke of Taylor, Madelene Buzan of Houston; 3 grandchildren, Brian Roepke, Patrick Roepke and Scholley Buzan; 3 sisters, Mrs. Agnes Cook of Austin, Mrs. Emma Weise of Manor, Mrs. Mary Solansky of Crystal City; brother, Paul Zimmerhanzel of Taylor; step-mother, Mrs. George Calder; half-sisters, JoAnn Pustejovsky, Edna Mae Silva; half-brothers, James Zimmerhanzel, Leslie and Bill Zimmerhanzel.
