Milady Cornelia Sladovnik was born to Florian Sladovnik and Anna Marek Sladovnik on December 14, 1905 in Taylor, Williamson, Texas. There is some confusion on the dates, as most of the records say 1905, but her grave marker says 1906. Milady was my great grandmother and when I asked my relatives they all believe the correct date to be 1905. Milady had her first daughter, my grandmother Melba Jean, on April 7, 1931. Two years later on November 1, 1931, Milady married Jack Monroe Corley, Sr. Together they had ten more children, seven of which are still living as of January 2015. Milady passed away January 6, 1989 in Belton, Bell, Texas. She is survived by her children: Betty Ann Corley Tibbetts, Margaret Joyce Corley Fetterman, June Eva Corley Stickney, Jack Monroe Corley, Jr., Earl "Woody" Derwood Corley, and Thomas "Tom" William Corley. Her children Mebla Jean Alexander Foreman, Dorothy Marie Corley Tolin Hawthorne, and Billy Frank Corley have all passed now. Milady and Jack had one baby girl, Milady Cornelia Corley, who died at birth on September 9, 1947. Jack Corley, Sr. passed on October 8, 1962. Milady loved canasta and farkle, and when she would get a bad had or it was your turn to roll the dice, she would slam her index finger on the table hard and give you a curse in Czech! She loved to cook the traditional kolache and Czech foods and was a very sweet woman. I wish I had gotten to know her, but she died when I was only four years old.
