PROHASKA PASSED ON. Long-Time Resident of David City Died Sunday Evening. Mrs. Frances Prohaska, resident of David City for 42 years, passed away at her home in Northeast David City at 7:20 o'clock Sunday evening, Jan. 4. On December 22 she sustained a stroke of paralysis from which she never regained consciousness. She was in her 77th year. Frances Koutny was Mrs. Prohaska's maiden name. Born in Tribetice, Moravia, in 1853, she grew to young womanhood there and was married in 1870 to John Prohaska. Two years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Prohaska moved to Austria, where they resided for six years, and in 1878 they came to the United States and Nebraska. After living in Omaha for nine years they came to David City and established their permanent home. Five children, two sons and three daughters, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Prohaska. The sons died in infancy. The daughters are Mrs. William Stowell of St. Paul and Mrs. Stacie Duf and Mrs. Elmer Seyboldt of David City. All were with their mother in her last illness and at time of her death. Mr. Prohaska passed away on July 25, 1930. Mrs. Prohaska was the last of her immediate family. Besides the daughters, two grandchildren, Dorothy May and John Morris Seyboldt, survive. Mrs. Prohaska was a devoted wife and mother, and by her kindly and pleasing manner won many friends during her lifetime. Funeral services were held at the Prohaska home at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 7, in charge of Rev. William Richards. John D. Hasik also gave a talk in the Bohemian language. Three hymns, "Asleep in Jesus," "Rock of Ages" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," were sung by Mrs. W. D. Baer, with Miss Florence Cornue accompanist. The pallbearers were Frank Divis, Frank Kovar, John Thomas, Ted Welte, A. A. Rohman of St. Paul, and Charles Prohaska of Abie. Burial was in the David City cemetery. In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Mr. and Mrs. William Stowell, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Cox and Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Rohman of St. Paul and Mr. and Mrs. Arch Wigg of Lincoln. __ Card of Thanks – Our heartfelt thanks are extended to all those who were so kind and helpful during the illness and at time of death of our dear mother, also for the beautiful floral offerings. We especially wish to thank Rev. Richards and Mr. McVay for their great kindness and assistance. The Daughters.
