Bio

Vernon G. Skarke, 91, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Lyndale Assisted Living. He was born on April 8, 1930 in Schulenburg, TX. Vernon graduated 1948 from Chilton High School in Chilton, Wisconsin. Right after High School he enlisted in the Air Force and was in the 27th Fighter Wing, during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life, Margery Farek, on October 5, 1952, in Schulenburg, Texas. He retired from the USAF on December 30, 1969 and then went to work for Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company until June of 1990 when he retired. He loved playing golf and going out to his place on Spring Creek. He loved cats and his favorite one was called Hotdog. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers and loved going to his favorite place to eat.. Henry's. He is survived by his brother, Richard Skarke and wife Carol of Henderson, NV, 6 nieces and nephews: Jean Burleson, Jo Annette Fraek and Jennifer Prihoda, James Fraek, Michael Skarke and Kim Rayburn. He was preceded in death by his wife Marge Skarke in 2010, his parents Emil and Olivia Skarke, one brother Roland Skarke and a brother-in-law William Farek, Jr. The family would like to thank Lyndale Assisted Living and staff for their wonderful care, Dr. Granaghan, Dr. Sun, Kindred Home Health and Hospice of San Angelo for all their care. We also would like to thank his dear friends that were there for him all these years Lana Thompson and Carol Brokaw. You made his life easier for a number of years and in his final days. There will be a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angel's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Greenwell officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite charity of your choice.
