Earl R. Surber, 80, a resident of the Gaston community, died October 1, 2007 a the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 1:30 PM at the Enterprise Cemetery in Enterprise, Oregon. Baker City Herald, Baker City, Oregon, October 9, 2007 Earl Richard Surber, 80, a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 1, 2007, at Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro. His graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Enterprise. Earl was born May 1, 1927, at Enterprise to Richard and Edith Surber. He attended schools at Enterprise and served in the U.S. Army, the Army Reserves and the Oregon National Guard. He was proud to be an American veteran. Earl enjoyed the outdoors and he was an avid fisherman. His great joy was attending family reunions with all the love, laughter, and fun with water fights. Earl spent episodes of time at the Camelot Care Center in Forest Grove the past several years with a pulmonary disease. The staff members there said that they will remember him as a kind, caring and gentle man. Survivors include two sisters, Rosemary LeSollen of The Dalles and Esther Evans of Clarkston, Wash.; a brother, Ellwood Surber of Baker City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and six brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to offset funeral expenses may be sent to Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise.
