Bio
Jewel Fuhrer was born on March 23, 1958, to Lewis and Maxine Nekolite; the second of 5 children. She graduated from Elmwood High School in 1976 and was married the same year to Stephen Heaps. Jewel and Steve had 2 sons, Justin and Jason. In 1986, Jewel and her two sons moved to Lincoln, where she worked in a factory, a paraeducator at Kahoa School, and as a waitress. During this time she met the love of her life, Kenneth Fuhrer. After Kenny passed away in 2007, Jewel became ill with a variety of autoimmune issues and eventually succumbed to cancer on September 16, 2021. Jewel is survived by her 2 boys, Justin and Jason Heaps; 2 Grandchildren, Izabella and Izaac; Sisters, Lori Barry, Cindy Berlin, Becka Nekolite; and her beloved dogs, Frankie and Nyla. Interment at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. 6700 S. 14th St, Lincoln, NE. Lincoln Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE.
