Dorothy Nell Pollard passed away Dec. 1, 2007, at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, Waco. There will be visitation prior to burial beginning at 1 p.m. at Coolidge Cemetery with burial to follow at 2 p. m. at Coolidge Cemetery in Coolidge, Texas. Nell and Snub raised their children on the farm which had been in their family since the days following the Civil War. She was very active in her church and civic organizations. She was a member and officer of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs and a member of the Limestone County Historical Commission. Assisted by her husband, she platted the Calina Cemetery and the nearby Trammel family burial site. Nell also had a passion for writing. In 1976 she researched and wrote a history of Delia, Texas, titled, "Delia, Then and Now." Nell retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1990 after serving 13 years as the postmaster in Coolidge. Her days after retirement were filled with traveling, volunteering with RSVP and serving as a 1st grade tutor for Parkdale Elementary, playing dominoes at Sul Ross Senior Center, and her first love, singing. During her retirement, she was a member of The Baylor Senior Choir, the sanctuary choir, and Sweet Spirit Ensemble of Western Heights Baptist Church. She also served as an Ombudsman for the Apple Tree Bazaar. Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Snub" W. Pollard, Sr. in 1985; two sisters; five brothers; and her parents, Ernest and Della Bailey. Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Harrison and husband, Richard, of Pearland, and Vikki Connell and husband, Jack, of Bedford; son, Ken Pollard and wife, Cynthia, of "The Homeplace", Coolidge; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
