Bio
Sarah Catherine Simmons Russell was born November 29, 1923 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on August 31, 2021 in Canton, where she resided at Country Place Senior Residence. She was a 1940 graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas. Tillie stayed home to raise her children until they were all in school. She then took a job at DeSoto ISD where she served as food service director for many years. She had many fond memories of her time at DISD and the ladies that she worked with. Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Russell; parents, Ethel Groves Simmons and Issac Poole Simmons; brothers, Glenn Simmons and wife, Lucille; Fred Simmons and wife, Peggy; mother/father-in-law, Eura and Alva Russell; brother-in-law, Clarence Russell; sisters-in-law Lorene Russell Ludwig and husband, Jimmy and Mozelle Russell McCombs. She is survived by her children: Janie Russell Morse, Grapevine; Becky Russell Hand, Waxahachie; Ken Russell, Waxahachie; Sarah Russell Hobbs (Harold), Hideaway; and Amy Russell Dombrovski (Richard), Azle; 24 grandchildren/in-laws; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Tillie will be laid to rest at Laurel Land Cemetery beside the love of her life following a private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
