Memorial services for Wayne Lavern Holliday, age 75, of Orchard will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Orchard United Methodist Church in Orchard with Rev. A.G. Turner presiding. Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Wayne passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill. Wayne Lavern Holliday was born on August 24, 1941 near Orchard, NE, to Lloyd and Dorothy (Craig) Holliday. He attended Emporia Country School from 1st thru 8th grade and graduated from Orchard High School in 1959. After graduating from high school, he attended Milford Tech School for Automotive training. In 1960, he married his high school sweetheart Fonda Menning in Orchard. To this union they had 2 children a daughter Annette and a son Brock. In 1960, Wayne started working as an auto mechanic at East Side Auto and worked there for 4 years. In 1964, Wayne went to work for his dad at Holliday Implement. Wayne took over the business in1972 and ran it until 2008. It continues on today as Lazy T Tire. Wayne was an active member of the Orchard community, including being a member of the Orchard Volunteer Fire Department for over 55 years. Wayne was a mechanic all of his life. He enjoyed water sports, motorcycles but most of all he liked to fix things and make them work. Even though Wayne battled Rheumatoid Arthritis and cancer for many years he continued to fix alternators, chains saws, lawn mowers, and restore vintage tractors, until the end of his life. Wayne is survived by his daughter, Annette McCain of Columbus, NE; son, Brock (Maria) Holliday of Palm Desert, CA; four grandchildren, Natasha (Brian) Macumber of Norfolk, NE, Brady (Katina) McCain of Buckeye, AZ, Emily McCain, Winside, NE, Callon McCain, Columbus, NE; four great-grandchildren, Cohen and Grace Macumber, Keelee and Marley McCain; brother, Dean (Krista) Holliday of Orchard; sister, Aletha (John) Eley of Orchard; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fonda in 2012, and grandson Matthew McCain.
