Bio

DARLENE PROCTOR Stella Darlene Proctor was born Feb. 25, 1930, to John and Stella Van Ornum. She was born in the family home in Chico, CA on Cleveland Avenue as the first of nine children. She grew up surrounded by brothers and sisters, as well as cousins. Darlene met and married the love of her life, Gilbert Proctor while in Chico. She only lived for a brief period outside of Chico when she and Gilbert moved to Fresno following his job. She worked for the Dimond Match Factory for 22 years, where she made many lasting friendships that she cherished. Darlene passed away at home surrounded by family on Aug. 22, 2021, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilbert; brother: John Van Ornum of Red Bluff, CA; sisters: Mary Blaser of Red Bluff, and Lynda Hamilton of Taylorsville, CA. She is survived by her sisters: Sallie Edwards of Oroville, CA, and Irene Wilson of Taylorsville; brothers: Jim Van Ornum of Chico, Dan Van Ornum of Grants Pass, OR, Doug Van Ornum of Ely, NV; sister-in-law: Bobbie Camou of Los Angeles, CA; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held for Darlene at Glen Oaks Memorial Park on Fri. Sep. 3, 2021 at 10am. Darlene was a very giving person, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice. Published by Chico Enterprise-Record on Aug. 29, 2021.
