Bio

Lasca Jackson Beck passed away May 16, 2019 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Lasca was born on December 7, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. She was the daughter of Walter Garrett (Gary) Jackson and Vera Orrill. She married Buddy Beck on November 17, 1963 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. No children were born to this union. Lasca was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Linton Jackson (died in infancy) and her husband, Buddy Beck. Lasca attended school in Mt. Pleasant, graduating in the class of 1954. She attended Texas Women's University in Denton, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. She completed her Student Nurses Training at Parkland Hospital, receiving the classification as Registered Nurse in 1958. She returned to Mt. Pleasant and worked at Titus County Memorial Hospital from 1958 to 1968 as Head Nurse and then as Director of Nurses. Lasca began her career in Education as a professor in the School of Nursing at Texarkana Junior College from 1968 to 1984. She taught at Arizona State University School of Nursing in Mesa, Arizona from 1984 to 2002, then Adams State College School of Nursing and Trinidad Junior College in Alamosa, Colorado from 2005 to 2007. She was very active in promoting the profession of Nursing as career and received awards and much recognition for her dedication. She did volunteer work as a clown entertaining children in the Children's Ward of several hospitals Tempe, Arizona. Lasca was a member of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of several professional organizations including the National Society of American Nurses to which she was a delegate in Washington D.C. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Mount Pleasant under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home.
