Dennis Joseph Liska, 79, of Altoona died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at his new home, The Walker Health Center in South Minneapolis, Minn. He was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Edgeley, N.D., to Joseph Charles and Marie (Pop) Liska. He graduated from high school and then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D., with a bachelor's degree in engineering and a mathematics minor. Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War and attaining the rank of colonel. He continued his duty with the National Guard for another 36 years. On Sept. 30, 1961, Dennis married Orita Mary Teske at St. Anthony Church in Minneapolis. Dennis farmed his whole life. He worked as a Certified Registered Seed farmer until he retired in 1988. Dennis was a resident of Edgeley, N.D., for 67 years and of Altoona for 12 years. He belonged to the Elks Lodge, LaMoure County Water Management Board, County Crop Improvement Association, Agronomy Seed Farm Council, United Methodist Church, Edgeley Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Dennis was a founding member of the Society of Emergency Medical Technician Coordinators and Instructors of North Dakota. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Orita of Altoona; daughter, Catherine Liska (Hung Russell); brothers-in-law, Richard Teske of California and Bob (Judi) Teske of Eau Claire; sister-in-law, Nicci (Terry) Fiedler of South Dakota; aunt, Hazel Liska of Nebraska; cousins, Milton, Clinton, Clifford, Arnold, and Lyle Scott of North Dakota and Lee Reifscheider of Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Joseph; and his sister, Nadine Benes. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona (Hwy. 12 East), with Monsignor Edmund Klimek officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Eau Claire. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 53. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Chapel is serving the family.
