SKRIVANEK, Dr. John M. of College Station. Age 59. Died 12/27/1972 (Wed.) unexpectedly at his residence. Services held 12/29 (Friday) in Memorial Funeral Chapel. Burial in College Station Cemetery, graveside Masonic Rites. Rev. H.E. Beseda of Caldwell Brethren Church and Rev. Jesse Skrivanek of Austin, officiated. He was BORN 6/6/1913 in Burleson Co. Had been a resident of Brazos Co. since 1952. Graduated with a bachelor of science degree and masters degree from the Univ. of Texas. Received PhD at Charles Univ. in Prague, Czechoslovakia. First taught at the Univ. of Houston, then moved to Texas A&M Univ. and was a professor of modern languages. He was organizer and secretary-treasurer of Texas Czech Education Foundation. Author of several Czech. text books which were used throughout the country. He also authored a textbook on Russian language. Member of Caldwell Brethren Church and a 32nd degree Mason in the Sul Ross Masonic Lodge of College Station. SURVIVORS: Wife, Lil; son, John David Skrivanek of Houston; 2 daughters, Mrs. Deanne Jones of Houston, and Sharon Skrivanek of College Station; 5 brothers, Joseph J. Skrivanek, Jr. of Caldwell, Dr. Ervin Skrivanek and Dr. D.A. Skrivanek, both of Ennis; Frank Skrivanek of Rockdale and Julius A. Skrivanek of Bryan; 2 grandchildren.
