Bio

Donald Franklin Moomey, son of Donald W. and Leota (McBroom) Moomey was born April 3, 1947 in Osceola, Iowa. He passed from this life on November 21, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 60 years. Don attended grade school in Hebron, LeRoy and Weldon; he graduated from Clarke Community High School in Osceola. He was the school "Indian Chief" mascot while in high school. He entered the U.S. Air Force on January 29, 1969 and was a KC-135 crew chief, and a B-52 and C-5 ground maintenance mechanic, being honorably discharged on January 1, 1971. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years, being honorably discharged on May 29, 1987. Don was united in marriage to Doris Florene Robison on June 12, 1977 in Osceola and two children blessed this union, Ryan and Amber. He worked as a loader operator and scale house operator for Martin Marietta for over 38 years. History was something Don always enjoyed. He studied his family genealogy, enjoyed going to old cemeteries and was a member of the Clarke County Historical Society. He enjoyed reading and had a very large book collection. He was always going to the library and joining their book discussions. When going to the mall with family he could always be found in his favorite store, Barnes and Noble, where he could spend hours. His hobbies away from books were outdoors, he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed shooting his guns and was always looking for the next one to add to his collection. He enjoyed music, country and classical. He served his community as a Clarke Community School Board member from September 25, 1989 to September 14, 1998. He was a Chicago Cubs and a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Family members preceding Don in death were his parents and a granddaughter, Alexandra Renee Moomey, left to cherish his memory, wife Florene; son Ryan Scott Moomey and wife Jill; daughter, Amber Dawn Moomey and fiancé Danny Whitlow; grandchildren, Jacob Hansen, Matthew Stout, Kaylene Stout and Nicolas Moomey all of Osceola; sister, Joyce R. Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; niece, Veronica R. Poloncic of Wilton, Iowa; nephews, Michael E. Fisher and Thomas W. Fisher both of Omaha, Nebraska as well as other relatives and many friends.
