Koon, aged 52, died Sunday evening at about 5:45, immediately following a rifle shot, fired by his own hand. The bullet entered the right temple, just above the eye, passing upward probably an inch and a half, and emerged from the wound above. He died almost instantly. Before firing the fatal shot which ended his own life, Mr. Koon became enraged at his daughter, Miss Evelyn, who had come home from Nevada to spend the week end, and struck her with a hammer. The blow was a glancing one and for a short time it was thought she was fatally wounded, though she regained her strength so rapidly that she was taken to her home in the west part of the city Wednesday, and at last reports was getting along nicely. Mr. Koon then went to the garage, secured a 22 calibre rifle placed the muzzle against his temple and fired the shot which killed him. Mrs. Koon was granted a divorce from the deceased and had allowed him to remodel the garage for his living quarters. Deceased was up town Sunday afternoon and seemed to have no particular care, and when the report came out that he had taken his own life, it seemed to those who had seen him latest that it was impossible. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. L. Koon and two sons, Samuel and John arrived here from Vivian, S.D., Tuesday and took charge of the burial. Rev. Handy read short funeral services from the Delaplane funeral home Wednesday afternoon and burial was made in the local cemetery. Deceased was born April 3, 1873, and was 52 years, 4 months, and 20 days old, at the time of his death.
