Bio

Mary "Jo" Jackson Hudgins went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Memorial: 12 p.m. Saturday at Polytechnic United Methodist Church, 1310 Collard St., Fort Worth. Private Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood. Jo was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Westminster, Texas, to Felix Owen and Effie Lee Jackson. She was the sixth of eleven children born to Felix and Effie. Her family were sharecroppers, and she told of how they started school late every year, because they had to finish picking cotton before they could go to school. After graduating from high school in Yuba, Oklahoma, she moved to Dallas, Texas, where she studied comptometry at a business school, and then used those skills at several businesses over the next 10 years. She met El Nathan (Nath) Hudgins at a revival at Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in September of 1950, and they married on Feb. 15, 1951. Nath said he knew, after the first date, that she was the girl for him. After Nath finished dental school, they moved to Fort Worth, where he set up his practice. Jo was a great wife and mother, raising four children. She later worked at Nath's office, after her children were grown. In her spare time, Jo loved to knit and crochet. She sold beautiful sweaters, and made more baby blankets and hats than we could count! She would make hats for the homeless, and for newborns at the hospital. She also loved to play bridge and dominoes, and was known as the resident champion at her assisted living facility. Jo walked faithfully with the Lord. She was involved with Bible Study Fellowship for many years, and served there as a group discussion leader. She was also a very active member at Polytechnic United Methodist Church for many years. Jo was known for her kindness, compassion and content spirit. Even in her last weeks, as she was bedridden, if asked how she was, she would say, "pretty good, I guess." She was dearly loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was easy to love. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends, but we are grateful that she is at home with her Lord, where there is no more sickness and death. Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Nath; and sons, Joey and Scott Hudgins. Survivors: Brother, Jackie Jackson; son, Greg Hudgins; daughter, Lisa Schubert and husband, Frank; daughter-in-law, Lisa Hudgins; seven grandchildren, Nathan Schubert (Tori), Natalie Hudgins Hernandez (David), Joel Schubert (Jenny), Nick Hudgins, Hannah Schubert Barretto (Balem), David Hudgins and Grace Hudgins; and six great-grandchildren, with another arriving in December.
