Bio

Norma Shipferling, 95, of Lincoln, died peacefully on Sunday, July 18, at Bickford of Lincoln where she has resided for the last 3 ½ years. Norma was born on Aug. 29, 1925, in David City to I. Charles and Clara (Smolik) Drozda. She attended business school and then took a job at National Bank of Commerce where she met her husband, John. She loved being a mother to her five children. Sadly, two of them, Steven and Mary, were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and succumbed to the disease early in life – Steven at 19, Mary at 22. After Mary's death, Norma and John, along with Tim Fischer, Mary's husband, were very involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Lincoln. Norma also had a wonderful career working at the University of Nebraska athletic ticket office. This was a job she loved, being right in the middle of all of the action for all of the sports but especially football. She was an avid reader and was a volunteer at the Lincoln Public Library. She was also active in her church, The Cathedral of the Risen Christ, singing in the choir and serving on the St. Ann's Altar Society. During the last 3 ½ years she has lived at Bickford of Lincoln, where the care she received from all the staff was outstanding. Every time one of them came into her room, she gave them a big smile. This smile went both ways. Norma had a way of making those around her smile. Norma is survived by her children, Scott (Mary) Shipferling of Colleyville, Texas, Sydney Shipferling of Omaha and David (Lori) Shipferling of Lincoln; grandsons, Neil Shipferling of Lincoln and Brant Shipferling of Grapevine, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Shipferling; her children, Steven Shipferling and Mary Shipferling Fischer; her parents, I. Charles and Clara Drozda; her three brothers and two sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM on Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ. Interment will follow in Lincoln Memorial Park.
