With humble acceptance of God's will, we're here to celebrate the life of Wilma Claudine Gilchrest Young, 80, of Richwood, Texas. She went suddenly and peacefully to be with her Savior on July 8, 2021 due to heart failure while surrounded by loved ones with the song Wind Beneath My Wings playing softly in the background and prayers being lifted for peace and comfort. This world was blessed by the birth of Claudine to Arvil Coan Gilchrest and Gladys Marie Mosley on October 8, 1940 in Gorman, Texas. As the second oldest, she treasured her six sisters and the unique relationship she enjoyed with each of them. She endued strength into the family bond by continually giving of herself and passed that legacy down to her own children by knitting them together through selfless love. Raising her five children to be as close in spirit as they are in age was her proudest accomplishment. Her life-long dependency on the Lord was the beginning and end of a family circle that cannot be broken. West Texas was the perfect backdrop for this young mother to continue the legacy of strong women in her family going back to the days of covered wagons. Whether she worked as a waitress, keypunch operator, or school cafeteria server, she independently provided not only for her own, but also for others in need. Her hard-working example instilled respect, morals, patriotism, and a strong work ethic into her children. Claudine moved with her son and four daughters to their final hometown of Brazoria County in 1972. She was one of the first women to be employed at Bath Electrical Systems in Richwood, Texas after being the very first woman in the electrical program at Brazosport College. Her leadership qualities then manifested themselves as she was held in great esteem managing apartments for the Garland Oaks and Oakwood complexes in Lake Jackson. To her delight, all of her children graduated from Brazoswood High School, started families of their own, and the "Lake Jackson Bunch" is now well over fifty strong. At her final position in the workforce with BASF, she met and married G.O. Young, the love of her golden years, on February 1st, 1992. By this time well established as Grandmommy, Claudine quickly retired to travel the country with her new husband and continued to spoil her grandchildren with adventure and affection. As the grandchildren began starting families of their own, she and G.O. played an integral role raising their oldest great grandson, Kristofer. Through every season of life, she loved abundantly, gave generously, and was thus instrumental in shaping many lives of those fortunate enough to know her. The legacy of her life will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. She was the light in every room, the laugh after every joke, the sun after every storm. We love you endlessly; you'll always be our hero and the wind beneath our wings. Claudine was preceded in death by her husband G.O. Young; parents Fritz & Gladys Marie Roecker and Red & Bessie Gilchrest; newborn son Michael Allen Davis; sisters Peggy Gowan and Ruth Bellar; son-in-law Terry Rice; and brother-in-law John McCauley. She is survived by siblings Barbara & (Mac) Dishongh, Judy McCauley, Donna (& Ray) Cessna, Vickie (and Curtis) Vermillion; step-siblings Johnny & (Kent) Meek and Rupert Lee May; children, Sherry Rice of Richwood, TX, Pam & (Jeff) Snider of Freeport, TX, Shanna & (Steve) McGee of Liberty Hill, TX, Jerry & (Tracey) Davis of Angleton, TX, and Tonyia & (Ronnie) Biddle of Angleton, TX; grandchildren, Amy Gilliam, Ron Gertson, Stephanie & (Bryan) Henslee, Anna Whistler, Sonya Graham, Sabrina & (Jeremy) Ruckel, Ashely & (Justin) Nesrsta, Amber York, and Justin York; step grandchildren Kimberly & (Clint) Morrow and Chris Biddle; great grandchildren, Kristofer, Ashlynn, Hunter, Michael, Victoria, Katelynn, Camdon, Alyssa, Haley, Brice, Natalie, Emily, Clara, Zak, Reagan, Royce, Zoey, Alice, Caleb, Abby, Adlen, Everett, Paisley, and Scarlett; great-great granddaughter Addalynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
