Bio

School teacher and farmer. Marcus Tegan was born in what was then the Utah Territory. He was a twin, but his sister Gertrude did not survive birth. He was therefore the oldest of five children born to Catrine (Treana) and Jens H. Tegan. Marcus attended high school and two years of college and was working as a farmer in Filer, Idaho before the war. On February 20, 1918, Marcus volunteered to join the Army Medical Corps. He trained at Fort Riley in Kansas and Camp Merritt in New Jersey for a total of five weeks before going overseas on May 8, 1918. Marcus was discharged on May 18, 1918 and returned to Utah. On February 22, 1922, he married Minnie (AKA Maurine) Alice Carson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Draper, Utah and then Filer, Idaho, before his death. Their first pregnancy resulted in a stillbirth. In 1925, their son Karl was born in Lehi. Unfortunately, Marcus died after a brief illness from Bronchopneumonia at the Twin Falls County General Hospital at age 40. A newspaper account states he was gassed in World War I, which weakened his lungs. He was survived by his wife, three-year old son, Karl, his father Herman Tegan, three brothers, Paul, Rupert and James Tegan, and a sister, Bell Tegan. Funeral Services were held in the Sixth-Seventh ward chapel under the direction of Bishop R. D. Andrews.
