Bio

DR. HARRY B. BURR, 91, of Houston died Friday, September 28, 1990. Dr. Burr was born September 5, 1899 in Waco, Texas. He received his B.A. degree from Baylor University in 1924, and his M.D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1929. At the age of 18 he served as a volunteer in the U.S. Navy as a sailor in World War I, and as a Medical Officer during World War H. During World War I he bad a tour of sea duty in the Atlantic Ocean, and during World War II he had two tours of sea duty—First, in a Mobil Hospital on the Island of American Samoa, and later in a troop transport. His ship participated in the invasion of Okinawa by American troops, and his ship also took the first American forces of occupation to Japan immediately after the War. He attained the rank of Captain, U.S.N.R. Dr. Burr was a member of the Harris County Medical Society, of which he served one term as Secretary, the Texas and American Medical Associations, the American Proctologic Society, the American College of Surgeons, and the International of Surgeons. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Doctor's Club that he helped organize in 1954. He was the author, or co-author of over 20 Scientific Articles that were published in various State and National Medical Journals. He is survived by his wife, Winnie M. Burr; son, Donald Harrington Burr; daughter, Maxine Watts all Houston; Two Grandchildren: Four Great Grandchildren; Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews. Friends may call at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons 1010 Bering Drive after 12 Noon Sunday, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday with Dr. James S. Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
