Bio

"MILES CITY -- Mrs. Mabel Newton, 80, long time resident of the Broadus area, died Thursday at a Miles City rest home of natural causes. She was born Dec. 18, 1888, at Richfield, Kan., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Whitted. She married Ernest Newton in 1910 at Mulvane, Kan. They came to Broadus in 1917 and homesteaded on Little Powder River. They lived there until the death of her husband in 1962. She moved into Broadus in 1962 and into a Miles City rest home in 1966. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John Gunther of Coalwood; a sister, Edith Whitted of Newton, Kan.; three grandchildren, including Mrs. Robert Baesler of Billings; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Powder River Congregational Church, Broadus. The Rev. Edward Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery."
