Bio

Elva Herstad got married to John Elliott in Escambia County on May 18, 1916 while she was still 15 years old. Her first child, John A. Elliott, was born early the following January. In the 1920 U.S. Census her son is living with her parents and she is a boarder living separately from her parents and listing her self as single. Her daughter, Dorothy, was born one month after the census was enumerated. There is a John A. Elliott, age 24, born in Massachusetts, serving aboard the USS Jacob Jones in Escambia County in the 1920 census. This may be the father of her children. I could not determine when he died. On April 16, 1931 she and Brady Jessie Green traveled from Escambia to Duval County and got married. On the marriage license he states he had never been married and she states she had been married but her husband was dead. By 1935 they were separated and she had resumed the Elliott name, however a divorce was not obtained until 1954. Brady died in the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on January 24, 1963. His death certificate lists him as divorced and his home address as Jacksonville, Florida. There is no cemetery listed. only that his body was "removed".
