Bio

From Schaetter Funeral Home: Ruby Julia Zwernemann Jenschke passed away on Monday, 5/31/21 at 7:08 A.M. Memorial Day after a lingering illness. She was 88 years old, born on November 18th,1932 in Caldwell, Texas to Edwin and Lydia Mynar Zwernemann. Growing up on a farm, Ruby picked cotton as a child while caring for her younger brother. The family eventually moved to Comfort, Texas where she attended high school and was a star on the basketball team. After high school the family moved to Kerrville. There Ruby tried her hand at different jobs including the Bluebird Café and then becoming a dispatcher at the Yellow Cab Company. It was while working for the Cab Company that she met the "love of her life" Rubin Jenschke, just returned from serving in the Navy during WW11. They married in Notre Dame Church in Kerrville on November 14, 1953. Ruby and Rubin made their first home in Kerrville. There they both became involved in scouting as they were expecting their first baby. Another baby girl soon followed. It wasn't long after the birth of their second child that they made the move to Houston where Ruby became very involved in Garden Club and the local Catholic Church. Two more children soon followed and Ruby became very involved in the local Catholic School. As Houston changed and Ruby felt it was no longer the safest place to raise her children, she insisted the family return to the hill country. That is when Rubin and Ruby opened Jenschke Furniture and Ruby blossomed into a full-time business woman and working mother. Her hidden skills burst forth and she was a natural at business, interior design, and marketing all the while remaining very active in St. Mary's church, school and the Catholic daughters. She gave freely to charities and those in need that stopped by the store looking for help. After the death of her husband in 1995, Ruby continued to run Jenschke Furniture by herself up until 2007 when she retired. Ruby is being awarded her 40-year membership pin from the Catholic daughters posthumously.
