According to the mortality schedule of the 1885 census he was a farmer, born Bohemia, married, resident of Saunders County nine years, and died of heart disease in Elk Precinct in February. Immigrated to the United States in 1874 with his wife and children. The passenger list for the ship Berlin , which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany includes the following family, enroute from Bohemia to Nebraska: Math Prochaska (52, farmer), Maria (49), Maria (23), Anna (18), Anastezia (12), Vincenzia (5), and Maria (5). 1880 census (Elk Precinct, Saunders County, Nebr.): Mike Prochaska (58, farmer, born Bohemia), Mary (wife, 56, keeps house, Bohemia), Staza (daughter, 17, Bohemia), Vincenza (daughter, 9, Bohemia). 1885 census (Elk Precinct, Saunders County, Nebr.): Mathias Prochaska (63, farmer, Bohemia, died), Mary (wife, 55, keeping house, Bohemia), Annastasie (daughter, 22, Bohemia), Vincencia (daughter, 15, Bohemia, died).
