Norma Jean Smith began her eternal life with God and reunion with her beloved husband Bill on August 19, 2018. Norma was born January 18, 1922 in Bruno, Nebraska to Bessie (Jaros) and Edward Spatz (Bruno's Postmaster) as their third child and second daughter. Graduating from David City High School, she briefly taught school. Norma met husband, Wilfrid Jacob Smith. They married April 14, 1941 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, Bruno, NE. They remained devotedly married for 57 years until Wilfrid's death December 4, 1998. Norma was secretary for various organizations including Nebraska's Boys Town, University of Nebraska Medical School (Omaha) and Creighton University Dental School. In 1961, the family moved to Scottsdale, AZ. She was executive secretary to the Scottsdale Baptist Hospital (now Scottsdale Memorial, Osborn campus) retiring 23 years later, after also being Medical Records Director, Medical Staff Coordinator, and Quality Assurance Director. A devout Catholic, Norma was active at Mesa's Holy Cross Church including as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound and in Catholic Daughters, Our Lady of the Desert Court #2164. She was the Court's Vice Regent and Regent. She was preceded in death by her husband (Wilfrid Smith), parents (Bessie and Edward Spatz), sister Gertrude Votava (Clare), brother, Edward Spatz, Jr. Contributor: Veronica (50912804)
