Suburban Newspapers (NE) - Thursday, October 13, 2005 WAHOO - George J. Jonas, 81, of Wahoo, died Oct. 8 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha. Jonas was born Nov. 21, 1923, to Vaclav and Marie (Jirovsky) Jonas in Swedeburg. He attended District 48 Country School through sixth grade, and the seventh and eighth grade at St. Wenceslaus School in Wahoo. On Sept. 18, 1951 he married Marcella Novak at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. He was a longtime Wahoo area farmer who farmed near Swedeburg until retiring to Wahoo in 1991. He and his wife visited the Czech Republic four times and reconnected with relatives there, they also enjoyed bus tours all over the country and Polka festivals. He was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, a member of Camp Creek Threshers, Saunders County Council Knights of Columbus, and former District 48 school board member. He was preceded in death by his wife; and brothers, Frank and Joe Jonas. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James and Esther Jonas, Thomas Jonas and Steven Jonas, all of Wahoo; daughters and sons-in-law, Rosanne and Scott Oliva of Milligan, Sharon and Joe Heneger of Weeping Water, Carol Jonas of Wahoo and Betty Decker, Summerville, S.C.; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mass Christian Burial was held Oct. 12 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Wahoo with Rev. Charles Townsend officiating. Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery in Wahoo. Honorary casket bearers were Justin, Carlie, Amanda and Michael Jonas, Ashley, Jaimie, Amy and Peyton Decker, Rachael Stewart and Rebecca Heneger. Casket Bearers were Ben and Howard Heneger, Travis, Tom and Tara Oliva, Josh Decker and Victoria Jonas. Memorials may be made to family choice. Svoboda Funeral Home of Wahoo was in charge of the arrangements.
