Fr. Rudy F. Oborny was born on Feb. 5, 1945 in rural Columbus, Ne. to Rudolf P. and Agnes R.(Divis) Oborny. He attended Rural Butler County Country School through the 3rd grade and then attended and graduated from St. Mary's Grade School David City, Ne. He graduated from Aquinas High School David City, Ne in 1963. He then entered Immaculate Conception Seminary in Conception, Missouri 1963 to 1967. In 1967 he entered St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was ordained to the deaconate in 1970. He was ordained a priest in 1971 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, in Lincoln, Ne. His first assignment was the Assistant Pastor at St. Wenceslaus in Wahoo, Ne from 1971 to 1973. Then in 1973 to 1976 he was assistant Pastor at St. John's in Lincoln, Ne. In 1976 to 1979 was assistant Pastor at St. Mary's David City, Ne. In 1979 to 1985 he served the missions in Venezuela. After returning home from South America he was pastor at St. Mary's Davey, Ne. from 1985 to 1988. He was transferred to St. Patrick's, Lincoln, Ne. from 1988 to 1990. Then in 1990 to 1999 was pastor St. John's Lincoln, Ne. Then in 1999 to 2004 was pastor in St. Wenceslaus in Wahoo, Ne. Then in 2004 to 2020 was pastor at Sacred Heart in Hebron, Ne. He retired to The Bonacum House in Lincoln, Ne June 2020 to present. Fr. Rudy is survived by his 3 brothers: Charles (Dorothy), Louie (RoseAnn), all of Bellwood. Jerry (Becky) of David City, and 1 sister: Fran (John) Pachta of Bellwood, Ne. Nineteen Nephews and Nieces, Seventy- three Great Nephews and Nieces, Six great-great Nephews and Nieces. Rosary will be Monday, May 17, 2021 at 7:30pm at Saint John Catholic Church, 76th and Vine Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 10:30am at Saint John's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Bellwood, NE.
