Newman Grove Reporter, Newman Grove, NE, Wed, 25 Feb 1948 Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, February 18, 1948, for Andrew John Eng. A brief service was held at the home at 1:30 and services at the Methodist church in Newman Grove at 2 o'clock with Rev. Norman Smitheram officiating. Burial was made in the Shell Creek cemetery. All the children were present for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Anderson of Axtell, Nebraska, also were present from a distance. Andrew John Eng was born on August 8, 1861, at Wexjo, Sweden, and departed this life at his home in Newman Grove on Sunday, February 15, 1948, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 7 days. When he was 21, he came to America from Sweden and made his home with relatives in Iowa and Illinois. Later he came to Lincoln and Omaha. He came to Newman Grove in 1902 and has lived in this community since. He joined the Methodist church on April 15, 1917. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Sweden. March 4, 1904, he was united in marriage to Anna Larson. To this union five children were born: Lloyd of Newman Grove; Mrs. Louise Suurballe, Detroit, Mich.; Kenneth of Newman Grove; Mrs. Kathryn Lueders, Wayne, Nebraska; and Helen who passed away at the age of 5 months. Mr. Eng enjoyed good health until about three years ago when he became ill. He is survived by his wife, four children, and four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Oscar Anderson of Axtell, Nebr.; two brothers, Gus of Valparaiso and Alfred of California, and many other relatives and friends.
