Bio
Neven "Bud" Ickes, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at his home in Page. Neven "Bud" D. Ickes Jr was born on September 27, 1927 near Page, Nebraska to Neven Sr and Rachel (Schwasinger) Ickes. He graduated from Page High School in 1944. After graduation, Bud enlisted in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Page to work on the family farm. Charlene Park had just moved to town when Bud returned from the Navy. They were married three years later on June 10, 1950, in Shelby, NE. They were parents of 4 children: Teri, Bob, Bruce, and Lee. The couple enjoyed raising their family on the farm near Page. In later years, Bud became a rural mail carrier, a job he loved for over 17 years. Bud and Charlene spent many nights sitting on the bleachers supporting their children and grandchildren's sports teams. Bud was very active in the Page community, he was a Sunday School teacher, a school board member, and a baseball coach. In his free time, Bud was a golfer, an avid bowler, and loved to play Bridge, especially with his card playing friends, Laura, Dana, and Leonard. Bud enjoyed his mower tractor in the summer. He mowed every ditch on the way to and from his daughters-in-law homes. Bud is survived by his three children, Teri Meyer and husband, Jerry, of Las Vegas, NV, Bob Ickes and wife, Shari, of Page, NE, Lee Ickes and wife, Cindy, of Page, NE; daughter-in-law, Clea Ickes of Salt Lake City, UT; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two brothers, Lionel Ickes and wife, Jeannine, of Nampa, ID, Dennis Ickes and wife, Janice, of Salt Lake City, UT, three sisters, Marion Jackson of Seattle, WA, Neva Kainer and husband, Mike, of Canada, Sybil Berndt of Chadron, NE; many nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Charlene in 2014; son, Bruce Ickes; granddaughter, Rebecca Hausmann; brother, Millard Ickes; and sister, Lola Sorensen.
