Copied with permission: Shawnee News-Star: October 28,30, 2007: Shawnee resident Lura Pearl (Brinlee) Hill died Friday, Oct. 26, in Tecumseh at the age of 88. She was born July 20, 1919, in Konawa to John E. and Lura D. (Autry) Brinlee Born and raised outside of Konawa in Pottawatomie County she graduated from Konawa High School in 1938. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University in 1938-1942. In 1942 she attended Southern Baptist School of Nursing in New Orleans, graduating in 1945. She returned to OBU and graduated in 1961 with a BA degree and Certificate of Teaching. On July 2, 1952, she married Newton C. "Newt" Hill. He preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1993. She taught at the Old City Hospital, as well as Mission Hill Hospital before becoming the LPN Coordinator/Instructor at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech, where she taught until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU program and a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, and recognized in Who's Who of American Women. She loved traveling, having been to the Holy Land and Mexico where she went on a mission trip. She loved missionary work, enjoyed painting and needlework. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Luther, Ray, Elbert, Homer and Charlie; and five sisters, Ruth, Lydia, Mary, Beulah and Lucille. Survivors include her two brother and his wife, John Earl and Vickie Brinlee of Midland, Texas; step-daughter and her husband, Beth and Greg Nellis of Jenks; 19 nieces and seven nephews, as well as over 100 great- and great-great-nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 6 p .m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Sparks, the Rev.
