M.L. Sylvest, 79, of Beaumont, died Nov. 14, 2008, at his residence. Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. today until services 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in New Augusta. Bro. Martin Smith and Larry Lott will officiate. Burial will be in Sylvest Cemetery. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Richton is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sylvest was retired from Leaf River Forest Products. He was a Master Mason and a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He served as a seaman in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947. He also served on the Perry County school board during the 1960s and '70s. ∼ Hattiesburg American November 16, 2008 M. L. Sylvest BEAUMONT - Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in New Augusta for M. L. Sylvest, 79, of Beaumont, who died Nov. 14, 2008, at his home. Burial will be in Sylvest Cemetery. Mr. Sylvest was retired from Forrest Products/Leaf River and served as Seaman in the U.S. Navy. He was a Master Mason and a deacon of the Calvary Baptist Church. He also served on the Perry County School Board. Survivors include his wife, Maxie Sylvest of Beaumont; two sons, Raymond Sylvest of Magnolia and Randy Sylvest of New Augusta; three daughters, Pat Sylvest Jones of Bessemer, Ala., Shirley Sylvest Gregory of New Augusta and Betty Sylvest of Cleveland; five sisters, Naomi Cabe of China, Texas, Larue Scarbrough of Houston, Texas, Gracie Morris of Alabama, Kathryn Bond of Hattiesburg, Mary Jewell Lott of Houston, Texas; four brothers, Sherman Sylvest of Petal, T.L. Lott of Prattville, Ala., James Lott of Hattiesburg and Caroll Sylvest of Columbia; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. today at the church until the service Monday. Jones and Son Funeral Home in Richton is in charge of arrangements.
