Anna Kalvoda Bismarck Tribune, The (ND) - Thursday, September 28, 2017 Anna Kalvoda, 83, Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Mandan, passed away Aug. 30, 2017, at LeHigh Acres, Fort Myers. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Nick Schneider as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Catholic Daughters rosary at 7 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7:15 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Anna was born on April 12, 1934, to Frank and Helen (Kinc) Chloupek near Gary, Minn. Anna and her family moved to Mahnomen, Minn., where her father died in February of 1938. After her mother married Francis A. Kalvoda in October of 1939 her family moved to a farm north of Silver Lake, Minn., where she attended Pleasant Hill Country School and graduated from Silver Lake High School. Anna married Anton Kalvoda Sr. on Feb. 12, 1952, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. They made their home on the now Kalvoda Century Farm, south of Mandan, and raised their 10 children. In 1974, they moved to Mandan. Anna was active in her community and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of Americas. She enjoyed woodworking and made many crafts and furniture. She also loved to travel, going to Europe three times. She and Anton traveled to Czechoslovakia, to visit Anton's birthplace. When in Rome, she shook hands with and was blest by Pope John Paul II. She loved cooking and did so at Mandan's Skelly Oasis Truck Stop, Mandan Hospital, and various restaurants. Her children and grandchildren will miss her kolaches and apple strudels. She took a runner's up spot in a baking competition where her apple strudel won second place to a professional chef. Anna's faith and family was central in her life and she was active in her children's and grandchildren's lives. Anna will be deeply missed by her sons, Anton (Cheryl) Kalvoda Jr., Mandan, Bill (Linda) Kalvoda, New Salem, Bob (Robin) Kalvoda, San Angelo, Texas, Jim (Kathy) Kalvoda, Mandan, and Tom Kalvoda, Mandan; her daughters, Barbara (Jack) Pyle, Tierra Verde, Fla., Linda (Dennis) Ressler, Mandan, Diane (Bert) Muller, Williston, and Ann Marie Kalvoda, Mandan; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Kalvoda, Bismarck; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Francis J. (Micki) Kalvoda, Willmar, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Frances Lauzer, Park Rapids, Minn.; her special friend, Charles McConnell, Fort Myers, Fla.; and a dear friend she always said was the sister she never had, Elda Charvat, Mandan. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anton who died May 22, 1989; her son, Terry Kalvoda; a brother, Joseph Chloupek; and a friend of Ann Marie, Harvey Leingang.
