Bio

Thomas Wayne Hrncirik, age 70, died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife and surrounded by his children in his home on March 30, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born on January 4, 1951 to Jerome and Angelina Hrncirik, in Vernon, Texas, and was raised in nearby Bugscuffle (now Elliott). He was the youngest of four children and always looked up to Mildred, Lawrence and Gladys. Tom, affectionately known around his hometown as "Tommy Wayne", often said he had the best childhood ever – hanging out with fellow "Bug boys" at Oklaunion school, swimming in the cow tank, riding scooters through fields, and forming a band, The TJs, where he played rhythm guitar. It was also during this time that he participated in 4H, winning numerous awards for sheep and rabbits, and developed his love of the land while farming with his dad and brother. Upon graduation from Vernon High School in 1969, he started his university studies at North Texas State. Building on a strong childhood foundation of family, faith, and hard work, Tom made several pivotal decisions in early adulthood that set the course of his life. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 24th, 1972. Shortly thereafter, he served as a missionary in the Santiago, Chile mission from 1973 to 1975, where he became fluent in Spanish and developed a love of different people and cultures while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Following his mission, he enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he met Sheryl Ann Walker. They were married on August 6, 1976 in the Los Angeles Temple and were blessed with five beautiful children. As an organized and self-driven entrepreneur and businessman, Tom worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family and realize his vision to touch millions through efforts to contribute to organic and responsible agriculture. After graduating from BYU in April 1978, Tom first honed skills in sales and marketing by working full time for Eagle Marketing Corporation. However, Tom was soon drawn back to his roots in agriculture. He launched two companies, Natural Resources Group and Soil & Crop, which just celebrated its 40th anniversary. As a gifted, self-made agronomist, he was driven by a mission to help farmers across the country create high yields from important food crops through the pioneering use of microbials. He built a tight-knit team of likeminded people that became his extended family. Tom lived a life of service to those around him in many different capacities. He had numerous callings in his Church – one of his favorites being many years of service with his spouse in the Houston Texas Temple. Tom and Sheryl also served two missions, first in the Czech Republic from 2010 to 2011, which led to a strong love for the town of Uherske Hradiste and the many dear friends they made there, and second, for Family Search in West Texas. Tom was best known by many for his service in family history and genealogy, which he extended to stranger and relative alike, as he joined families with their ancestors through their genealogical endeavors. For the past 40 years, Tom has been driven by a responsibility to serve his ancestors. In his free time, he became a certified genealogist for the Czech Republic and worked to painstakingly and meticulously gather the names and important life events of thousands of ancestors from archives across the Czech Republic, which he connected together in a tapestry of interconnected families. His family history work also led him to seek out living relatives and organize reunions in the Czech Republic and Poland. Tom is well known for his ability to bring people together and cultivate memorable experiences, his devotion to improve the earth and soil, his talent for family history work, his insatiable wanderlust, and his ability to achieve any goal. More than any of these worthy accomplishments, his most cherished roles were that of beloved husband, father and grandfather. Tom is survived by his wife, Sheryl; children: Cory (Rachelle), Andrea (Josh), Julie (Jimmy), Melissa (Craig), and Adam; grandchildren: Juliana, Joseph, Mackay, Elizabeth, Beckett, LJ, Emersen, Matthew, Mary Alice, Lincoln, Dexter, James, Wyatt, Abigail, Jacob, and Bennett; sisters: Mildred, Carolyn, and Gladys; nieces, nephews, cousins and thousands of beloved extended relatives found in his comprehensive genealogical database. Tom will be interred near his birthplace and final resting place of his parents and siblings, in Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday, April 3 (funeral details below).
